Focaleland will take over the Skeleton Room on the lower level of the historical Australian Museum for the winter series of Jurassic Lounge on the evening of 13 September.

They will play two live shows on the night – 6:30 and 8:30pm – in which the space will be filled with the transportive vocals, whispers and music-box guitar riffs of Flutter Lyon to be joined by the deliciously textural percussion and wicked electronics of Jared Underwood. Visionary Sydney interactive designer Lukasz Karluk will projection map his vivid Ink-Pressing inspired graphics onto a glossy white perspex projection disc that will hover above the performers. The graphics glowing in their monochromatic glory all the while evolving in real time in response to the live and improvised sound.

We are also incredibly excited to announce a special costume collaboration with Gavin Bradstreet and Dean Rankin of couture house Khrysalis. Think luscious black silk, white hair and plaited floor length cording.

There will be fluttering confetti by Mr Shankly and a brand new album to acquire.

The premier Focaleland live show was a wonderful experience

Our debut show for Focaleland went off with a flash and a bang and a lullaby. A few photographs here..more to come + a video piece from the night. Thankyou to everyone who came to be a part of it. You were all so coincidentally good looking.

The brand new live show for Focaleland!

In case you didn’t know, the major live audio visual project I am quietly working on at the moment is in collaboration with percussionist Jared Underwood and interactive designer Lukasz Karluk.
I sing and play electric guitar with multiple loop and effects pedals.

The result is an immersive collision of live improvised sound ‘fragile vocal hymns over smashed drumkit whims’. Breaths, melodic harmonies, primal screams of the pleasurable kind meshed with pounding drum beats, golden chimes, metal brushes and soft snare patters.

This comes together with all new audio interactive and generative projection works by Karluk, inspired by the ink-pressed artwork I am focused on in the other main area of my daily practice.

An emotively driven, audiovisual mapping of a moment in time expanded through multiple layers of creative discipline.

We have all performed together in the past, this new show being the next evolution and sees us really start to focus our energies into a very specific trajectory of collaborative exploration.
